USW started well with Lucy Stacey and Sarah Adams linking up in midfield with composed play. It was this composure in possession that allowed Adams to burst through the defence and she laid the ball back to Lucy McDonough who fed it into the path of Chloe Lloyd. She finished calmly to give USW the lead.

It only took a few minutes for USW to double their advantage as UWE couldn’t handle the possession play by the home side and a terrific ball over the top by Adams found Lloyd, who made no mistake with her finish to grab her second of the game.

USW’s pace threatened UWE and USW’s constant pressure paid off yet again after some great passing in midfield led to the pacey Ffion Price breaking free down the right and after a mazy run, her cross found McDonough who slotted the ball home. USW looked comfortable in possession and any potential attack was halted by the strong defending of Gemma Evans at the back.

Terrific play down the right again from the dangerous Price led to another threatening cross into the box but UWE defended the danger well, although they couldn’t hold out for long. Adam’s stunning strike from thirty-five yards contained too much power for the UWE goalkeeper and made the score 4-0 to USW who had the game seemingly wrapped up by half-time.

Both sides started well in the second half, making physical challenges and creating chances but it was USW that had the first big chance with more fantastic play down the wing between Price and Lloyd. This led to Price finding McDonough, but her powerful shot blazed over the bar.

USW scored a fifth soon after – great link-up play between Hannah Miles and Price down the right, led to Price playing in Miles, who finished emphatically past the UWE goalkeeper. On the 70th minute, Price grabbed a much-deserved goal after her free kick from forty yards out looped over the stranded UWE goalkeeper to make it 6-0. USW finished off their rout in style after brilliant play down the left from USW led to Lloyd completing her hat-trick with another cool finish.

A well deserved win for a hardworking USW team.
