Date: Wednesday 6th December 2017

Venue: Sport Park, Treforest

Two goals in either half saw the University of South Wales ease to a four goal victory over the University of Bournemouth in Treforest.

The home side started the stronger and took the lead after just five minutes. Central midfielder Chloe Lloyd collected possession just inside her own half and played a delightful, defence splitting through ball to Ffion Price, who took the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper and finished into an open goal.

USW had a great chance to double their lead five minutes later – Hannah Miles with some great work down the right hand side, picking out Lisa Owen with an out swinging cross, however Owen couldn’t direct her header on target and saw the ball go behind for a Bournemouth goal kick.

USW were looking threatening in their search for a second goal and were unlucky not to have one just before the half hour mark. Again great work down the right hand side from Hannah Miles, weaving in and out of the Bournemouth defence and letting fly from just inside the penalty area. However, she was unfortunate to see her effort cannon off the bar.

Following a lengthy stoppage in play due to an injury to Chloe Lloyd, USW finally got their second goal, after 35 minutes. Striker Paige Rogers capitalised on some miscommunication between the Bournemouth centre back and goalkeeper and lifted the ball over the ‘keeper from the edge of the box to give the home side a two goal lead at the break.

The second half started as the first had ended, with USW controlling possession. They created their first chance of the half after ten minutes, Ffion Price this time latching onto Sarah Adams’ ball and forcing the oppositions ‘keeper into a fine save down low to her right.

The third goal came just after the hour mark with centre back Ffion Llewellyn striking an unstoppable freekick into the top left corner from 35 yards out.

USW added their fourth two minutes later, Sarah Adams getting the goal her performance deserved when she capitalised on a poor clearance from the away side to finish on the half volley from the edge of the box, the ball finding the back of the net via the post.

The tempo of the game settled slightly in the last twenty minutes, however USW were unlucky not to add any further goals, with Lisa Owen and Lucy Stacey both hitting the woodwork in the dying stages.
