NEWLY-promoted Caldicot Town Ladies have been deducted nine points for the use of an ineligible player.
The player in question featured a total of three times this season when they weren’t eligible to play and the WPWL have handed Caldicot a points deduction for the offence. Caldicot have won only two of their nine games this season.
The WPWL rule-book states that any club fielding an ineligible player will have three points deducted from its league record for each offence, and be liable to a fine.
The Welsh Premier Women’s League confirmed the punishment on their website.
“As a club, we are very upset with the points being deducted. It will definitely have a huge impact on us as nine points to any team in massive.” said manager Luke Harris when speaking to The Beautiful Game Wales.
“To reach the Welsh Premier Women’s League was hard and to potentially be relegated by an admin error is gutting.”
This is the first time since the 2013/2014 season that a side has received a points deduction, following Caernarfon’s failure to fulfill a fixture.
Caldicot’s next match was due to be played today against Caernarfon Town Ladies but the game is off.

The North Wales side sit just above them on zero points, having lost each of their eight league fixtures. A win would have seen Caldicot move ahead of Caernarfon Town on the virtue of goal difference, having scored 14 goals and conceded 33, compared to Caernarfon who have scored just three goals this season and conceded 35.
“We will treat every game as a must win and try to gain as many points as possible,” said Harris.
