THE University of Bristol Men’s 4ths took advantage of USW’s wasted goal scoring opportunities to claim a 2-0 win at Treforest Sport Park.
USW started strongly with some terrific passing up front with Tom Fouracre and Mikey Wicherek looking dangerous in possession and Joe Holman threatening in front of goal.
Predictably it was USW who had the first clear cut chance of the game, Joe Holman held the ball up well in the box and he found Wicherek whose shot was saved well by the Bristol keeper.
USW continued to dominate proceedings and it was Holman again who produced a dazzling piece of skill to beat the Bristol defence but his shot was once again saved by the Bristol goalkeeper.
As Bristol grew into the game, they began to create chances but Morgan Davies stood strong in the USW goal. However, Bristol took the lead after Bristol whipped in a corner, Luke Massey tried to wildly clear the ball which deflected off his leg into the net to make the score 1-0 in the 20th minute.
USW bounced back soon after with tricky winger Mikey Whicherek getting the better of the Bristol defence on multiple occasions, however their dangerous attacks were snuffed out by the in-form Bristol keeper.
USW started the second half on top once again and were denied an equaliser after Holman’s long range effort was well saved. USW continued to threaten with Jake Ashley turning well in midfield and his thunderous strike was again saved by the Bristol keeper
However, USW began to tire as the game wore on and Bristol took advantage as they managed to break away down the right flank, but a piece of terrific defending by captain Jackson Huxley denied them a second goal.
Morgan Davies also kept USW in the game with an amazing double save after Bristol escaped in behind Huxley and their attack produced two fine strikes. Davies pulled out all the stops with his second save on the line to prevent another Bristol goal.
Slowly, USW maintained possession but failed to threaten the Bristol defence with any attacks and Bristol fought back as they broke down the left wing, the Bristol forward slotted the ball comfortably past Davies in the USW goal to wrap the game up.
