THE University of South Wales Men’s 1st team were knocked out of the Champions Cup by an experienced Cardiff Metropolitan University side.

Manager Steve Savage gave his thoughts on the game, after goals from Jordan Lam and Dan Spencer were enough to finish off the tie, as Met emerged 2-0 victors.

Despite the disappointment of the cup exit, Savage said he was proud of his side’s performance during the season.

The Men’s 1st team finished third in the Premier South Division, only three points behind eventual winners Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Their cup run saw them come up against several prestigious footballing sides, edging a win in the dying minutes against the University of Stirling to see the game out as 3-2 winners.

Facing Durham in the next round, a tense 0-0 draw saw the heroics of stopper Ash Morris make the headlines, with the keeper saving four penalties overall in the game and scoring one himself, in a shoot-out that USW dominated despite creating few chances in the tie.

With this game marking the end of the season for the Men’s 1st side, Savage is keen to keep building and utilizing the new facilities at his disposal.
