A STUNNING performance by Bournemouth University left USW in the wilderness as the south coast came away from the Sport Park with a 10-0 victory.
The signs were clear to see for the USW defence early on as Bournemouth’s Jade Kaya wasted a couple of good chances. Nevertheless, there was no stopping Emily Davies’ burst of pace as she passed the ball into the USW net as the away team started their onslaught.
After dominating possession, Bournemouth took further control of the match adding a second through attacker Anna Morgan who impressed throughout. Having provided most of the action in the first half, the south coast side took a back seat and nearly allowed USW into the game but managed to keep their clean sheet intact going into the second half.
A rousing half-time team talk by the USW captain Megan Shaw wasn’t enough to stop Bournemouth grabbing their third of the afternoon through Emma Raymond. Sandwiched in between a Jade Kaya strike were goals for Lucy Withall and a second for Emily Davies, who were a constant threat throughout.
With USW out of possession for most of the second half, it was midfielder Maddy Tuck who was the real driving force in the side. Even with Tuck’s efforts, Bournemouth continued to pile the points on the scoreboard as Holly Curtis stroked in the away side’s seventh.
Having not claimed a victory in the BUCS League since October 2017, USW were on the cusp of a 10th game without victory on their own turf. After Curtis’ strike, Bournemouth managed their eighth, ninth and tenth goals of the game through Lucy Withall, Eglantine Meleard and Emily Davies rounding off her hat-trick.
At the final whistle, there was sense of frustration in the air for the home side as Bournemouth celebrated their second victory of the campaign.
On the defeat, USW’s vice-captain Abi Gallafant said: “That was very difficult to take. There are new members in this team and we are not used to playing with each other.”
With a tough clash ahead of USW against The Royal Agriculture University, Gallafant added: “We now have two weeks to prepare and build on what we didn’t do well today and put it right in the next game.”
