USW Men’s 2nd coach Bobby Briers gave his reaction to his side’s victory and explained what he made of his team’s performance.
“First half we were strong, we did the right things in the right areas and ultimately got our first three goals, and they were fully deserved.
“We had a chat half-time and changed a few things because I felt that we were quite vulnerable in the wider areas, especially with playing three at the back. Therefore we changed the system to four at the back, so we were more secure.
“After the third goal went in our mentality completely changed, which was the most disappointing thing today. The two goals we conceded weren’t down to us being carved open; it was more down to a changed attitude.”
Briers explained what he thought needed to be improved on in preparation for the next game.
“I think it’s just decision making, doing the right things in the right areas for the full length of the game, rather than just one half. As you can see we had a lot of chances in front of goal, it’s something we really want to address because we had the same scenario down in Swansea last week where we just haven’t been clinical enough.
“It will come. The guys won’t get downbeat about it. The positive for me is that we are creating chances and scoring opportunities. Sooner or later we are going to convert these chances and someone is going to have a good beating on the end of it.”
