UNIVERSITY of South Wales Women’s rugby coach Mark Hutton praised his players after they claimed a tough win in testing conditions against Bath.
USW ran out victors, playing some impressive rugby that made light of a blustery and wet afternoon at the Sport Park.
Hutton said: “I was pleased all in all to be fair, we anticipated it was going to be tough because we have gone up a league, so inevitably we expected that physicality, but the girls dug deep.
“There were some exciting tries and now we have a good foundation going forward for the rest of the season I believe.”
Asked about the display of impressive scrum-half Niamh Tinman, Hutton added: “Yes, Niamh was outstanding.
“It was her first time taking to the field after very limited training sessions.
“To score those tries and two conversions….clearly, she’s an athlete and footballer.”
Next week Hutton’s side take on Cardiff University 1sts.
Looking ahead to that fixture, Hutton added: “It’s going to be tough, but we will take confidence from today.
“The fact we scored tries and our defence was pretty firm means we can now go away and work on some individual pieces and we will relish the opportunity.”
