STRIKING duo Abi Meredith and Megan Jones were in fine form throughout the game. The University of South Wales Netball 1st came away with their first win of the league season as they defeated Cardiff Metropolitan 4th by 39 points to 36 in a tightly fought affair.
Six out of the nine goals that USW scored in the fourth quarter came from Meredith. Meredith’s form in the final quarter was extremely valuable to her side as only three points separated the two sides at the end of the game.
Her striking counterpart was Megan Jones, who played goal shooter. The two were deadly in front of the net and worked hard in trying to regain possession. Jones managed to find the net eight times during the first quarter, proving her worth to the USW attack.
The pair worked well and thrived under the Cardiff Met pressure, and often used some clever passes to manoeuvre around the Met defenders.
The key to their success in front of the hoop came down to unselfishness. If a better option was available inside the goal circle the two would always choose the wiser option and pass the ball before shooting.
Despite an all-round good performance from every USW player, Meredith and Jones stood out due to their good decision making and fine goal scoring form.
