STAR striker Lucy McDonough is hoping to continue her fine firing form as she returns home to Oxford to face its university side.

McDonough got her second hat-trick in consecutive games last week as her team continued to enjoy an impressive campaign.

USW head to Oxford University on Wednesday afternoon for a monumental cup clash, as Kaseem Taylor’s side look to advance through to the last 16 of the competition for a second consecutive season.

And after a convincing win over Southampton Solent last time out, McDonough says the team must do better than previous sides have managed in the cup.

“We have got to go further than the round of 16,” said McDonough.

“We’ve got a completely different team to last season and I think we’re better than we were then.”

The striker is confident that the positive morale in the squad will stand them in good stead for the cup clash.

“We’ve definitely gelled together a lot quicker than we did this time last year which is going to help us in the cup.

“I’m really looking forward to going back and playing on my old stomping ground.”

McDonough took her tally for the season up to nine after netting her third hat-trick of the campaign against Southampton Solent, and will be keen to add a few more against a few familiar faces on Wednesday.

“It will be good to go back and play with people I’ve played with somewhere in the past up there.”
