USW’s Hannah Bluck has been named in the starting 15 against England this afternoon.

The 21-year-old previously represented Wales in basketball and football and only picked up an oval ball two years ago.

Bluck, a strength and conditioning student at the University of South Wales, is in her third and final year. But today, her focus is on playing not studying as she pulls on the red shirt of Wales at Cardiff Arms Park.

She hasn’t featured for her university team this season. However, it was through playing rugby at USW that Bluck was recognised by Wales manager Rowland Phillips.

“Putting on the red jersey has always been an honour in all the sports I have played,” she said.

“Rugby is pretty new to me but I have a burning passion for it.

“It’s an honour and a privilege to put that red jersey on and run out onto the pitch with an amazingly talented team of great people.”

It is her first start of the campaign, having missed the heavy defeat to France and the 3-3 draw with Italy. She last played for Wales in November.

“A few concussions had halted my autumn internationals but my hard work never stops. I find it difficult to rest as it’s just not in me, but I am learning to recover and take rest days.”

Bluck won Female Sportsperson at the USW Sport Recognition Awards last year.
