USW Sport Recognition Awards
Date: Friday 5th April, 2019
Venue: Sophia Gardens, Cardiff
THERE are five days left to vote in this year’s annual University of South Wales Sport Recognition awards.
Voting for the awards, which include Academic Student of the Year across undergraduate and post-graduate courses, Team of the Year and Coach of the Year, closes this Friday, March 1st.
The ceremony to announce the winners and celebrate another year of sporting success at USW takes place at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Friday April 5th.
The event, the third of its kind, was established to recognise and reward the achievements and efforts of students, staff and partners involved in USW Sport.
Huw Wilcox is the employability and partnerships officer based at the USW Sport Park and is one of the organisers of the event.
“This will be our third annual event and we want to build on what we achieved last year and make this an essential date for the diary for all those associated with sport at USW,” he said.
“And we want to increase it in terms of the attendance of 120 last year towards the 200 mark over the next couple of years.
“This event showcases our academic year of sporting excellence as well as recognising what our sports students have done academically, from year one up to master’s courses and also including our Sports Journalism course based in Cardiff.”

The event will highlight some of the most impressive student performances and achievements over the past year and also recognise the importance of the partnerships USW forms with those in industry.
“The relationships with the partners we have at the USW Sport Park such as the FAW Trust, Welsh Rugby Union, The English Football League Trust, the local authorities and many others is vital in creating an amazing sporting atmosphere,” added Wilcox.
“We also have fantastic sponsors that help us on the way and getting everyone together once a year to recognise the importance of the part everyone plays is a fitting way to end the academic year.”
Votes can be cast here until Friday.
