SWANSEA City’s top goal scorer, Oli McBurnie, said his side felt comfortable against Bolton Wanderers, despite not scoring for 80 minutes.
He revealed that there was a sense of frustration involved in the game, particularly in the first half after his spot kick was denied by a smart save from Remi Matthews.
The Scotsman eventually got on the score-sheet to help seal the victory and see the Swans move to seven points adrift of the play-off places.
“We felt comfortable the whole game really, when we got the first goal it made it a lot more comfortable for us as they had to come out at us more,” he said.
“The first half was frustrating, but I knew, and the team knew that if we kept going the chances would come.
“We knew what type of game it was going to be. We knew it was going to be a tough game.
“We knew that they weren’t going to play expansive football and give us a lot of space in behind. They were always going to sit back in two rows of four and we’d have to wear them down.”
The late goal from McBurnie came as a relief to the whole side, especially the man himself: “I’ve not celebrated like that for a while. It was pure relief and emotion put into one.
“18 goals for the season is not too bad, I’ll keep going now and see how many I can get.
“Achieving 20 goals this season is well within my sights, but I don’t have targets. I just go out and try to score every game, so I’ll just carry on with that attitude.”
Following McBurnie’s goal, second half substitute Bersant Celina put the game out of Bolton’s reach and secured all three points in injury time.
The Swans have a tough fortnight ahead of them. They travel to league leaders Norwich on Friday evening then face West Bromwich Albion away the following Wednesday.
They entertain Premier League Champions Manchester City in the sixth round of the FA Cup on Saturday 16th March.
