USW football 6ths manager Sam Morris describes his team’s ‘mentality and approach’ as ‘poor’ after watching them go down to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Gloucestershire 4ths.

Goals from Jack Charman and Elliot Wright meant USW went a second week without a win, after their 1-1 draw away at University of Exeter last time out.

Morris said: “It was very disappointing today, our mentality and approach to the game was poor.

“Our start was very slow and shaky. We didn’t hurt them when we got in good positions in the first half and they deserved to win in the end.”

He added: “There are no positives to take from today, but the intensity both with and without the ball just wasn’t there so we will be pushing the boys hard in training in the next week or so.

“After last week’s strong performance, it was a massive setback, but we’ll look to improve before we play Cardiff Medics and then Swansea 4ths in the cup in the coming weeks.”

The view from the visitors’ coach Tom Bodger was very different.

Bodger said: “It was a good, close game of football for us.

“We seemed to get over our initial rustiness and gel quite well as a team over the course of the ninety minutes and I felt we deserved the win today.”

“It should be an interesting game next week when we play the Royal Agricultural Men’s 1sts.

“I’ve never come up against them before so they are a bit of an unknown quantity for me.

“But if we play our game to the best of our abilities then I believe we have the quality to get a result against any team in the league.

“I definitely think we have the quality and talent to get promoted this season, and hopefully to push for the title as well.”
