AFTER beginning the season last week with a narrow 12-8 defeat at the hands of Cardiff Met Women’s 1st, USW welcome Swansea Women’s 2nd to the Sport Park

USW made a statement last week in that despite defeat to Cardiff Met, they showed they can compete in matches and also that they have come a fair way as a team.

They struggled to score goals last season, only managing to find the net on 12 occasions in their seven matches. This season they are already a third of the way to beating that tally after last week’s gutsy performance.

USW and Swansea are no strangers to each other after they met last season, an encounter which saw the Swans came out on top of a tight 5-4 scoreline.

USW captain Hannah Westhenry is going into today’s match with her held high and confident that her side can achieve their first win in two seasons.

“We have a few of our strong players down with freshers flu, however, I’m still feeling confident our team will deliver a good game,” she said.

“This time last year we would just be hoping to come out of the game with one or two goals.

“Now our team is stronger than ever, and we could really give Swansea a run for their money.

“In the last game the girls were just getting the hang of the game dynamic, so hopefully tomorrow we’ll be able to adopt attacking drills into our performance more effectively.”

Face-off is at 15:30.
