BARRY Town United manager Gavin Chesterfield heaped praise on the standard of football at Jenner Park this afternoon.

He said he saw “one of the best halves of football in the Welsh Premier League” after his team earned a hard fought 2-0 victory over Airbus UK.

It took two second half goals for The Linnets to claim all three points with Kayne McLaggon scoring from the spot before substitute Drew Fahiya wrapped up the game from close range in the 94th minute.

Despite a goalless first half, Chesterfield was full of praise for both teams’ performance saying: “It [the first half] was one of the best halves of football I’ve seen in the Welsh Premier League this year.

“I thought they were excellent and I thought we were excellent.  It was a really good game; tactically, technically, physically, it had everything apart from loads of goals.”

He added: “The second half was different, it was a bit more of a war of attrition from us, more defensive orientated which sometimes you need to do.”

Chesterfield went onto further praise Town’s “different faces” when playing.

He said: “I’m really pleased that we’re showing lots of different faces to us, we showed that we can be possession orientated, that we counter attack really well, but we also show that we have a strong defensive resilience as well and six clean sheets in 11 games is something to be proud of.”

Kayne McLaggon, who has scored seven league goals so far this season, impressed for Town, both winning and scoring the penalty, despite playing out of position for the majority of the game, and Chesterfield was full of praise for his star striker.

He said: “He’s scored some really important goals for us and we’ve changed his role, he’s probably better through the middle, but he still contributes to goals from his current position.

“The way he takes information on board, the way he sacrifices himself for the team, that’s what we ask from people here, to be team players and he’s a key part of that.”
