Preview: USW 5th v Cardiff Met 1st

by Matthew Williams

USW lacrosse come into today’s game with belief and optimism that their upcoming campaign
will be more fruitful than that of last season.

Despite some positive performances last season, USW ended the season in last place with seven defeats from seven games. Perhaps the more worrying statistic, is that they finished with a -113 goal difference.

A new breath of motivation is perhaps the calling card that USW need, and a local derby to kick
off the season should be the kind of motivation they’re after. Cardiff Met 1’st finished last
season just two places ahead of USW in 5 th , with two wins and three defeats. They will be
aiming to challenge the top teams in the league this season, and a tough away trip to USW is
where they’ll aim to get their season off to a flyer.

Just two places separating these two sides last season perhaps doesn’t tell the whole story, as
Cardiff Met finished the season seven points clear of USW, as well as with an astonishing +116
point goal difference.

However, with a new season upon us, fresh ideas, fresh positivity and a bit of fresh blood in the
teams means anything is possible.
