A BRACE from Frederick Stevens helped University of South Wales on their way to a 4-1 victory against University of Bristol.

Goals from Corey McKerry, Julian Hassle and Stevens ensured the home side responded to last week’s defeat against Cardiff Metropolitan University 4th.

While Jack England grabbed a late consolation for the visitors.

USW’s first chance of the afternoon came inside the sixth minute when Ryan Chanderinos’ ball in from the left fell to Bristol’s Peter McReery, who headed against his own crossbar as he looked to clear the ball away from danger.

The hosts maintained control of the game and took a deserved lead inside the 2oth minute when Stevens was played through on goal and he hammered a low effort past Bristol goalkeeper Zac Seddon.

And USW doubled their advantage as Hassle capitalised on a lapse in concentration from the away defence and headed home from close range.

Further chances followed for Dids Essien with two chances in quick succession. The first sailed marginally over the crossbar and his second was tipped round the post in the final stages of the first-half.

Despite enjoying most of the possession early on in the second-half, the away side failed to capitalise and were unable to halve the deficit.

Stevens netted his second of the game just after the hour-mark as he struck past Seddon with a fierce shot, ensuring there would be no way back for the visitors.

McKerry added another as he tapped in from close range with nine minutes remaining, but there was still time for Bristol to grab a late consolation.

After substitute Harry Robinson saw his shot denied by USW goalkeeper Travis Wood, Robinson was on hand to convert the rebound, giving the visitors something to cheer about on a frustrating afternoon.
