WALES Under-21 manager Paul Bodin has revealed that 18-year-old Terry Taylor will now play for Wales, despite representing Scotland at Under-17 and Under-18 level.
The Wolverhampton Wanderers player – who represented Wales at Under-15 level – was included in the Wales senior training camp ahead of the June Euro 2020 qualifiers away to Croatia and Hungary.
Taylor qualifies to play for the Red Dragons through his mother Morag, who is from Cardiff, and Bodin opted to include him in the Under-21 squad for their European Championship qualifier against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Tuesday, at the Racecourse Ground.
Bodin began by saying: “Terry came into a training camp in May with Ryan Giggs, he did really well and he’s progressing well at Wolves.
“He used to play for Scotland, he’s decided to change his allegiance to Wales, which is great for us.”
The 55-year-old went on to confirm that he has not worked with Taylor yet, and revealed the type of player that the youngster is, adding: “I’ve not actually worked with him yet, but I’ve seen him train with the first-team squad.
“I remember him playing against us in the Under-17s at Llanelli a few years ago: he’s a big, strong, powerful player.
“But he looks a lot more mobile now in his play. He’ll be a big asset for us and we’re delighted he’s changed allegiance.”
The midfielder made his Wanderers first-team debut in a 2-1 loss at Aston Villa on October 30th, but Bodin was informed that Taylor suffered with injuries from pre-season, concluding: “We’re really pleased with him, but the trouble has been that he’s had a lot of injuries from pre-season.
“He went away to China on their first-team tour, picked up an ankle injury and unfortunately that continued into the season.
“But in the last couple of weeks he’s picked up form, played regularly and came on for the first-team in the Carabao Cup at Aston Villa.”
