University of South Wales 3rd suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Cardiff Medics 8th, losing 48-9 at the Sport Park in Treforest By Tom Lea
The tough start to the season continued for USW who are still yet to win a game in the BUCS Western 6B this season.
For the visitors, the star player was goal-attack Olivia Williams, who contributed 31 goals towards her team’s tally, ably supported by Emily Raj with 7 and Mia Thomas who netted 10 goals. Kiera Aitken scored all nine of USW’s goals.
The away side started strongly with Williams scoring six and Raj adding three as the Medics led 9-3. The second quarter was more of the same for the visitors as Williams added another five goals to her personal tally, supported by Thomas who added six after replacing Raj at the interval.
Raj was back for the third quarter, and she added another three goals to the scoreline with Williams scoring a further eight as the visitors pulled away with a commanding 31-7 lead.
The fourth quarter saw Williams score another 13 goals for her side, along with four nets from Thomas.
USW were left to rue some spells of poor handling, which saw them surrender possession far too frequently, leaving them unable to build enough threatening spells with the ball.
