UNIVERSITY of Gloucestershire Men’s 2nd scored two late goals as University of South Wales Men’s 4th remain winless and increase their worries of  relegation.

Goals from Gloucestershire’s star man, substitute Seb Wade, were the difference in a tight game at the Sport Park.

USW were on top in the first half but struggled to create any clear-cut opportunities, however, Gloucestershire took control of the second half, catching USW on the counter on multiple occasions.

USW remain bottom of the Western Tier 4B, whereas Gloucestershire sit fourth, five points ahead of the home side.

USW started the first half brightly with a number of half chances, Sion Herman and Liam Newman testing the keeper in the opening 10 minutes.

Ben Turner had the first good chance for Gloucestershire, but he sent his one on one over the crossbar.

The home side continued to control the first half with a number of good chances squandered.

Gloucestershire also missed a number of chances with Lewis Chappell firing his one on one over the bar.

Calls for a penalty for Gloucestershire were waved away by the referee as Turner was bundled over by USW goalkeeper Dan Thomas.

The away side came out in the second half determined, with Tom Stevens testing the USW keeper twice early on.

USW struggled to get a hold of the game as Gloucestershire continued to pressurise, with Chappell hitting the post from a corner.

USW had goalkeeper Thomas to thank as he made an excellent save to stop Craig Cambridge’s diving header on the back post.

Gloucestershire continued to hit USW on the counter as they pushed for a winner; Chappell again sending his one on one over the bar.

The visitors found the net in the 83rd minute after Chappell flicked a long ball through to Wade who calmly converted.

USW played out the final few minutes with 10 men as Dylan Plenty came off with a calf injury.

In the final moments, the 10 men of USW piled into the penalty area for a corner, which was cleared, and Gloucestershire finished the game on the counter-attack with Wade netting his second of the game.

USW 4th head coach Callum McGarry was disappointed with his team’s second half performance.

“We got caught up in their formation and trying to stop them playing and we didn’t do the basic things that I asked them to do,” he said.

“If we are going to play like that for the rest of the season we may as well throw in the towel because we will get relegated.”
