In a new addition to the course’s weekly newsletter, we identify female students on the course on Breaking Barriers in the industry.

This week we talked to Rhianna Davies from Pontypridd who currently in her second year of the course.

“Being a woman in the industry, I am definitely in a minority. The industry is very male dominated.

“However, the increase in female presence is becoming significantly visible. For aspiring female sports journalists like myself, this is a massive breakthrough and a step in the right direction.”

Rhianna who is an avid Cardiff City fan and a regular traveller to watch Wales football play away has recently joined first year Chris Stonadge in his YouTube series ‘breaking barriers’ on Total sport.

“It inspires us to achieve our goals. It also offers the belief and encouragement that a female can thrive in the sporting industry.

“More needs to be done regarding the acceptance of women working in the industry. Negative opinions are still seen throughout social media towards women. However, this is slowly improving.”

She’s definitely a sports journalist to keep your eye on for the future.
