WELSH Commonwealth triathlete Chris Silver believed that he would never recover after a 10-month battle with suspected ‘long Covid’.
The Cardiffian believes that he contracted the virus in March – just before mass-testing was available.
After recovering from mild symptoms, Silver believes that it was his imminent return to training that led to his battle with the virus.
And the battle led Silver to believe that he would never recover from the virus.
“When you continue to deteriorate for so long, and you get to the point where you can barely function and look after yourself, it is almost like a valid thought and to be expected,” Silver said.
“You do think ‘this is my life and I am not going to get better’ and ‘is this it now?’ and that’s quite a devastating realisation.”
But the triathlete isn’t going to let this get him down and stop him from getting back to his best.
“For the 2022 season, I don’t see any reason why I can’t be back to my best – if not better,” Silver continued.
“I have got the Commonwealth Games in mind. Hopefully, I am going to be a guide for a visually impaired athlete.
“That’s a goal I have got and I do not see any reason why that will not happen.”
