Preview: Swansea City v Brentford

Date: 27.01.2021

Venue: Liberty Stadium, Swansea

Kick Off: 19:00

PROMOTION rivals Swansea City and Brentford meet at the Liberty Stadium with both teams looking to move a step closer to a place in the Premier League next season.

Swansea manager Steve Cooper has continued to work wonders in South Wales, following a hugely impressive run which has seen the Swan’s gain 13 points in their previous five games in the Sky Bet Championship. Following up with a 5-1 victory against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup fifth round as well as a convincing performance against Barnsley in their previous league fixture.

Promotion remains the top priority for Swansea City who face stiff competition from several teams around them in the table including tonights visitors. At the moment everything is going well for Swansea, but that could all change if they come out of tonight’s game with nothing.

Visiting manager, Thomas Frank will no doubt be disappointed with his side FA and League Cup exits at the hands of Premier League Tottenham and high flying Leicester City and will be happy to see his side return to league action this evening following on from their victory over Luton last time out in the league.

After an indifferent start to their campaign, the Bee’s have recovered to find themselves in the situation of being on the brink of breaking into the automatic promotion places with a game in hand. Thomas Frank will be the first to admit that it will count for nothing if they lose the game this evening, but the opportunity should provide extra motivation to a group of players that have shown few signs of losing in the league since all the way back in October.

Swansea face no major injuries going into tonight’s match while Brentford are without Pontus Jansson and Christian Norgaard with both being ruled out with injuries.

Prediction

This important clash at the top end of the Championship table will see both teams fighting for an automatic promotion place for a chance to play in the Premier League next season. Brentford have won their last four league games whilst Swansea are unbeaten in their last seven matches in all competitions. The outcome of the match itself could go either way with each team perhaps happy to settle for a draw in the end.
