FORMER Wales international Robbie Savage has launched ‘The Savage Foundation’ which helps to give young people access to grassroots football.

The foundation is being fully backed by the Football Association aswell as Sport England and will provide free football for all.

The sole aim is to ensure that young people are able to have opportunities to enjoy being active in a fun and engaging environment whilst eliminating barriers to level the playing field.

The Savage Foundation will also will be dedicated to deliver Savage’s belief that all youngsters should have access to free grassroots football regardless of their background or ability.

In the announcement video on The Savage Foundation Twitter page, Savage said: “For a long time now I have campaigned to raise the agenda of how important grassroots sport and keeping active is for children.

“In my own sport of football one of the barriers is the accessibility to the game, which can’t be right.

“No child should be disadvantaged because of their ability, background or social inequality.”

Last night’s launch event was held at Macclesfield Town Football Club’s Leasing.com Stadium and speaking at the launch night, Savage was overwhelmed by the reception that the initiative got.

“When we first started 75 days ago, we never believed it would be this big. We can see how much the kids were enjoying it with a smile on their faces and having fun.

“All the volunteers, all for free and I couldn’t have done this without a great team around me and it has been an unbelievable launch night for The Savage Foundation.

“I am so humbled to have launched The Savage Foundation tonight , so many Inspirational stories from the youngsters who had an amazing time playing football tonight all for free. Thank you to all my volunteers who made it happen.”
