UNIVERSITY of West of England 3rds ran out emphatic winners against University of South Wales 5ths in a one-sided affair at the Sports Park.

In a first half that had plenty of goal mouth action in favour of UWE, it only took a few minutes to grab the first goal. A great move down the left hand side concluded with a lovely turn and a neat finish from Charlie Welch, this set the tone for the rest of the game. As the half continued, it was clear that the majority of the attacking play from UWE was coming down their left putting pressure on USW’s Yuki Shirozu.

The second goal was an absolute cracker and it came from Carew Harris.  A foul on the edge of the box led to a nicely placed free kick, which was expertly dispatched into the far right corner.

Ollie Stewart then added a third goal not long after with a cool finish into the top of the net. Then to top off a first class performance, Jay Blackwood slotted home to make it four. More slick football from UWE that really topped off a totally dominant first half, with plenty more to come in the second half.

The second half started with multiple shots from UWE being parried wide. USW throughout the whole game looked blunt defensively and offensively. Stewart grabbed the first goal of the second half for UWE with an easy first time finish from a few yards out that found it’s way into the top corner.

USW goalkeeper Frank Buchanan’s day went from bad to worse when Pierce Walton danced around him to then calmly pass it home into an empty net. Star man Walton popped up again not long after to hit a shot straight under the keeper who was unable to keep the ball from bobbling over the line.

Guy Davies was able to slot home a misguided cross at a tight angle to make it 8-0, before Daniel Ephriam calmy tucked it past the keeper on the full time whistle to make the final score 9-0.

USW were completely outplayed in what was an extremely one-sided affair with USW only managing to get one shot on goal all game. A dominant performance from UWE was capped off with stellar performances from midfielders Stewart and Walton who were both able to grab themselves braces.
