USW women’s football 1st coach Kath Morgan was unhappy with her team’s first half performance and the officials despite her team’s handsome win against Portsmouth at the Sport Park.
The home side prevailed 5-2, sealing the deal with a vastly improved second half showing after some stern words from Morgan at the interval.
“Obviously the first half was frustrating, we didn’t get going and we deserved to put ourselves in trouble,” said Morgan.
“After the early two-goal lead, we should’ve been in the driving seat and seen the first half out.
“For me, the quality of the officials was questionable. Although we did make massive errors that didn’t help us and to be fair, we deserved to go into the second half at 2-2.”
However Morgan did have heartfelt praise for her side’s character.
She added: “This bunch of girls play their hearts out. I did have to raise my voice at half time, but they did respond and they are very close as a group.
“They got themselves out of that (first half) situation and they needed to as, for me, that is not the group of girls I coach on a Monday.”
Morgan looked ahead to upcoming games, targeting some consistency.
She added: “It’s a tough trip away to Hertfordshire (next) and because we are new to the league we’ve got no experience, therefore every game is a learning curve.
“We’re still trying to finalise our squad and get people to commit to being available, and that is causing us a little bit of a problem at the minute
“Team selection is inconsistent, hence our performances are inconsistent. So as soon as we start nailing consistency then I think we will kick on.”
