Swansea University coach Jack Lewis cut a frustrated figure as he watched his side conceded two late goals to the University of South Wales, one of which was a contentious penalty that turned the game upside down.
Swansea was comfortably winning the game 1-0 going into the final quarter of the game thanks to a well taken goal by winger George Sellick, but the momentum of the game swung the way of USW thanks to the controversial penalty and a well taken goal both scored by Sam Snaith.
When asked about the penalty Lewis replied: “It was a bit harsh, especially with the new rules coming in involving shots from distance and hitting the arm whilst in a natural position.”
Most of the players on the pitch, and the people watching the game, surprised the penalty was given. Lewis was also frustrated as he believed that “without the penalty I don’t think that they would have won the game as it caused a momentum shift”.
However, Lewis believed that his team “played really well” and “stuck to the plan for the game that let us create really good chances.”
Lewis did also bemoan the fact that his team did not take most of the chances throughout the game.
“If we took one or two of the really good chances in the second half then it would have been a completely different game.”
When questioned about which of his players impressed today Lewis replied saying that centre back Noe Sanchez impressed him due to it being his first Bucs game, adding it was good to see that he could perform at this level. He also went further to say that both wingers were impressive, creating a lot of chances with one scoring a very well taken goal.
