USW men’s football head coach Jonathan Jones is adamant his team are in good shape ahead of a vital clash with Swansea University next week, despite losing 2-1 at home to Bath.
In a bad tempered clash Jones’ men came up just short at the Sport Park against opponents who had two men sent off late in the game.
It means the meeting away to Swansea could go a long way to deciding whether the former Bucs champions preserve their Premier status.
After the Bath defeat, Jones said: “I was disappointed with the result, it’s never nice to lose a game of football but I think some of the things within the performance and the things we asked the players to deliver on is a real positive.
“I think in terms of the season we’re in a chapter at the moment where we feel like we’re making real progress in terms of the performances.
“The training programme, the lads spending more time together and developing their ability to execute the game plan is certainly progressing.
“We had some good chances to equalise, especially in the second half and particularly towards the end which shows the character of the players to keep going despite the scoreline.
“I feel like it’s definitely a performance we can build on, it’s a performance that is indicative of the progress we have made in recent weeks. We can build on it for what is going to be the biggest game of the season next week at Swansea.”
