Cardiff boss Steve Morrison says they embarrassed youngster Joel Bagan ‘because of how good he was’

Cardiff manager Steve Morrison hailed his side’s performance as a ‘job well done’ following their 2-0 midweek victory over Coventry City at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Joel Bagan’s second consecutive goal and Mark Harris’ late strike secured a morale-boosting three points for the Bluebirds in the Sky Bet Championship.

The win moves City 13 points clear of the relegation zone, with the win also seeing them secure their third consecutive victory on home turf.

“A very good job well done,” said Morrison. “From everyone, the staff to the players, every single one plays a part in everything we do.

“We’ve shown tonight we have a good group of players and if we carry out our jobs, we will win games.

“First 20 minutes they were the better side, but they are a good team, they’ve been better and more consistent than us recently.

“We won 2-0, we got a clean sheet and ultimately that’s what matters, but I hope our fans can see what is going on.

“It shows how close-knit we are as a group at the minute, you can see the celebrations from the players and staff when we score. “

Bagan was the standout performer for the Bluebirds in the win over the Sky Blues, scoring his second goal in as many games and putting in a stellar defensive display at the heart of the City defence.

And Morrison was particularly delighted for Joel Bagan, a player whom the former striker worked with when in charge of the U23’s.

“We embarrassed him in the dressing room after, because of how good he was,” Morison said of his left-back, Bagan.

“He made them take a player off, his opposite number, and Todd Kane has played hundreds of Championship games.

“He was thrown in the deep end, that was the reality of it. And it was tough for him, he needed that break out of the game.

“I think Joel is a player who’s grown in each game, and that was a perfect result of that tonight.

“I thought Eli King on his first Championship start was also excellent, Joel Bagan was man-of-the-match and Mark Harris came on to make it two great goals.”
