SWANSEA City claimed all three points at home against Coventry City in convincing style, fully deserving their 3-1 success.
Two goals from Michael Obafemi and a Jamie Paterson strike were enough to nudge Russell Martin’s side closer to Championship mid-table, with Gustavo Hamer replying for the visitors.
Paterson opened the scoring in the 12th minute, slotting his opportunity into the far corner for his ninth of the season.
And as the first half ended the home team doubled their lead following a perfectly timed through ball from Flynn Downes for Obafemi to place a composed shot into the net.
It was game over early in the second half when Obafemi stroked the ball past Simon Moore, giving the Swans some precious breating space and easing any anxiety among home supporters.
With five minutes left Coventry pulled one back through Hamer’s low shot into the bottom right corner, but by then the outcome was not in doubt.
Coventry barely threatened in the first half, with their best chance coming from a mistake which allowed Victor Gyokeres to go clean through only for Swans goalkeeper Andy Fisher to smother the chance.
But it wasn’t a perfect display from the Swans. Following the third goal they became lethargic at the back, gifting the opposition multiple chances to open their goal tally for the day. Only last ditch defending from Ben Cabango and Ryan Manning stopped Coventry from causing more damage.
The Sky Blues’ best spell was the final 20 minutes, but the in-form Fisher was equal to everything that came his way.
Ultimately though, Swansea had done enough in the early stages of the game to secure the points and dent Coventry’s play-off hopes.
