USW 2nds Western Conference cup final loss was down to a “lack of clinical finishing”, according to manager Rob Bailey.

Bailey watched his side put to the sword by an impressive Solent University outfit, who completed a cup and league double on Wednesday at the Sports Park.

While he was understandably disappointed with the 0-4 result, he did not feel the same about his side’s performance in front of a bumper crowd.

“We didn’t get started properly in the first half,” he said, “but considering we didn’t really play to our level in the first half we didn’t look like conceding either.

Kieran O’Donnell put the visitors ahead after 28 minutes, a goal that was created by a “silly mistake”, according to Bailey.

“Second half we started brightly, put the ball on the floor but when we started clipping it in the air we lost a bit of momentum and then it was a fluke for the second goal.

“To be fair you can see why these boys score a lot of goals, because the third goal was a very good one.

“The result was fair, absolutely, they put their chances away and the scoreline was a fair reflection.

“We weren’t clinical enough and that probably disappoints me more than anything else, that everyone’s not seen how USW 2s play, we’ve been a shadow of ourselves.”
