USW men’s rugby 2nd 0-66 Cardiff University 4th

By Rhys James

UNIVERSITY of South Wales 2nds fell to an ugly 0-66 thrashing at the hands of their local rivals.

It was poor from USW throughout, with an early try from Cardiff No8 Henry Paris – who was one of the away team’s best players throughout – starting the rot

Paris managed to get through the defensive line on the wing and finished well.

The home team’s fortunes were only made worse as second row Alfie Beatty had to come off early with an ankle injury.

Cardiff dominated the initial exchanges and although USW spurned a good chance to score after knocking on towards the end of the first-half, this was a rare period of pressure for the hosts.

More first-half tries from Cardiff’s Tom Gallo and two from Matt O’Sullivan made it 0-35 going into the second period

Shortly after half-time, a try from Ben Powell set the tone for more Cardiff superiority and the accurate boot of Tomi Booth ensured points kept coming via conversions.

The rest of the game was one-way traffic.

USW were starved of possession and were forced to kick long on numerous occasions, which simply handed possession back to their opponents.

More second-half tries from Jack Hall, Paris and Monty Skinner eventually completed an easy victory and a deeply disappointing day for USW.
