UNIVERSITY of South Wales Football 1st got back to winning ways with a 4-2 home victory over Swansea University Football 1st.
Goals from USW’s Freddie Stevens, Adam Kaplan and a brace for Rhys Hudson saw off the visitors, despite their own brace from Joe Pelosi.
After last week’s loss away against Bath University, USW’s Hudson opened the scoring in the 11th minute by cutting in on the edge of the box to fire past Swansea’s keeper, Benjamin Edwards.
The home side continued to dictate the play and by the 20th minute, USW doubled their lead through Stevens, who tapped home a rebound from a heavy challenge amid claims for a penalty.
Swansea were dominated in the first half. They did hit the post twice, but USW goalkeeper, Harry Irving, dealt comfortably with everything else that came his way.
The start of the second half saw the momentum shift towards Swansea and by the 47th minute, they scored through Pelosi from a poorly defended corner by USW.
Swansea piled the pressure on and in the 59th minute, Pelosi doubled his tally from a sloppy attempt by USW to clear the ball.
Despite Swansea’s amounting goal threat, USW took the lead once more in the 79th minute, after Kaplan broke through to score at the far post from a tight angle.
USW’s victory was secured with Hudson’s second goal of the match, as a long ball down the right saw him go one-on-one with Swansea’s keeper and chip into the net in the 84th minute.
After their 5-0 loss in the first week against Hartpury, USW have had a mixed run of form since, beating East London but losing to Bath, getting back to winning ways this afternoon.
