A second-half header from Dexter Collins was enough to get the victory for Cardiff Medics in a fiery encounter against the USW Men’s 3rd.
Collins came on as a first-half substitute for the injured Dan Kloos and powered home from James Bateman’s corner in the 63rd minute.
A Kojo Asamoah goal ruled out offside by the referee late-on kept the score at 1-0, with the visitors unable to convert a host of chances throughout the encounter.
After an uneventful first-half, the game sprung into life through good play from Cullen Rodgers on the left, but Tom Pritchard was unable to find the target.
The Meds then continued to assert their dominance, coming close through Asamoah, striking the crossbar from outside the box in the 56th minute.
Asamoah again came close after receiving a long ball over the top of the defence, with his effort pushed wide by USW keeper Jack Horell.
From the resulting corner, Bateman’s dangerous delivery was headed home by Collins to give the visitors the lead.
Tensions began to rise on the side-lines between home supporters and the Meds bench, which appeared to translate onto the pitch, with Meds’ Jordan Davies and Noah Robinson picking up bookings in quick succession.
However, USW were unable to find an equaliser and held on for all three points.
