USW Men’s 4ths beat Gloucestershire 4ths 2-1 in a bottom of the league affair.
Goals by Sam Nesbit and Adam Caswell guaranteed victory, with a late goal by Ryan Knowles proving to be a consolation for the visitors.
USW started the better of the two teams enjoying a brief spell of possession. Gloucestershire worked their way back into the game and looked the more likely to score following a series of corners.
In the seventh minute Gloucestershire had an attempt cleared of the line from a corner after the USW keeper came for the cross and missed it, leading to a goal line scramble.
Gloucestershire continued to dominate the game, even forcing USW keeper, Ellis Buckley, to make a save after a quick counter.
After early pressure from the visitors the game began to settle and became an evenly contested match.
USW’s best chance of the first half fell to Ehab Hassan who collected the ball just outside the opposition box before firing the ball towards the top left corner which was saved.
A first half which ebbed and flowed ended 0-0 with neither team making a breakthrough.
USW started the second half quickly with winger Mackenzie Jefferis heading the ball just wide following a corner.
USW continued to go close, after a 52nd minute freekick by Cameron Wassell took a deflection and wrong-footed Joe Grey, the Gloucestershire keeper, but went just wide.
The deadlock was broken after sustained pressure early in the second half by USW centre midfielder, Sam Nesbit. His shot from outside the box flew into the top left corner.
Gloucestershire had to wait until the 77th minute to get their first meaningful action of the half with a smooth passage of play leading to a close range shot which was saved by USW keeper, Ellis Buckley.
However, an 88th minute freekick into the bottom left corner by substitute Adam Caswell put an end to Gloucestershire’s hopes of a comeback.
A 90th minute goal by Gloucestershire’s Ryan Knowles curled and looped over the keeper but had no effect on the outcome of the match.
