Cardiff City 0-1 Millwall: Bluebirds extend winless run to 11 games after defeat to Lions

AN early goal by Tom Bradshaw condemned Cardiff City to defeat at the hands of Millwall in a game which once again saw the Bluebirds regret a string of missed opportunities.

Bradshaw punished defensive uncertainty by centre-back Cedric Kipre in the 26th minute to extend Cardiff’s winless run to 11 games in all competitions.

Before kick-off, there were protests by the home fans over the ownership of the club and financial dealings by owner Vincent Tan following a week that has once again seen the tragic Emiliano Sala story make headlines.

Bradshaw was given an early chance when put through on goal only to be denied by a last ditch challenge by Mark McGuinness, the defender recalled from a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday.

The Bluebirds had their moments, and Callum Robinson had a header tipped over the bar by Millwall keeper George Long from a lofted cross by Jaden Philogene in the ninth minute.

A dangerous ball from Sheyi Ojo soon after was met by Callum O’Dowda who forced a great save once again by Long.

But the hosts, under the caretaker command of Dean Whitehead a week after Mark Hudson’s sacking, were unable to capitalise on these chances and were soon behind to Bradshaw’s strike.

It was all Cardiff up to half-time, and the Bluebirds also began the second half strongly, but a curling effort just wide from Robinson in the 46th minute and an OJo header over the bar on the hour mark was the closest they came to an equaliser.

Millwall’s Calum Styles received a yellow card for a studs-up challenge in the 74th minute which might have been red on another day, and there was a frenetic feel about the closing stages as the hosts pushed for the leveller.

But like so often this season, it never arrived.

Millwall climb to eighth in the table but Cardiff remain in 21st, one place above the drop zone, with Hull away next Saturday.
