USW 3rds finished their season on a sour note after narrowly losing 2-1 to a strong and well drilled Cardiff Met 4’s
A brace from Met striker Leo Weedon was enough for the hosts to get the win in what was a tight match, with USW winger Jack Murlis grabbing a goal back for the away side.
The match started scrappily, with neither team able to hold onto the ball.
The home side’s first chance of the game brought a goal when Weedon’s deflected shot slipped past USW goalkeeper Freddie Owers in the seventh minute.
Ten minutes later Cardiff Met got their second goal of the game when Weedon got on the end of a great cross to tap in from five yards out.
USW replied almost instantly when Murlis finished from close range to half the deficit in the 20th minute.
Weedon then had a chance to score his hat-trick when it looked as if he had scrambled the ball over the line however the referee was hesitant it did not cross the line.
The first chance of the second half came to USW when a through ball was played through to Evan Olson who rounded the keeper but with the angle against him put his shot into the side netting.
USW were a much stronger outlet in the second half on the ball with a half chance falling to Fredrik Dreyer who struck the ball from 40 yards which was easily held by the Cardiff Met goalkeeper.
A chance then fell to Rhys Alden who struck the ball from 25 yards out which was parried away by the goalkeeper.
However, the lack of threat in the final third meant that Cardiff Met could hold on to the lead without really being troubled by the USW attack.
The result leaves USW finish bottom of their league at the of their season where the win carries Cardiff Met into fourth place on 15 points with them playing their final game of the season at home to Swansea University 2’s on the 22nd of March.
