USW captain Lowrie admits Cardiff Met defeat is “tough to take”

USW men’s hockey first team captain John Lowrie claimed the USW women’s first team: “showed some very good signs,” despite a disappointing 4-0 loss to Cardiff Met seconds.

Lowrie was acting as coach for the home side’s clash with their local rivals.

“It’s a tough result to take,” said Lowrie when asked for his thoughts on the outcome.

He claimed: “We weren’t completely battered – it’s a shame to concede so many but they were all very good finishes.”

USW struggled to threaten the Met goal, with Lowrie mentioning how his players “lacked the final factor of getting the ball in the ‘D’ and scoring”.

Lowrie reflected on what he feels the team needs to do in order to turn their fortunes around.

He added: “We need to lead from the back more and help each other out.

“Hopefully that will mean we win some short corners and in turn score some more goals.”

USW will hope to bounce back against Cardiff 4th in their next fixture.
