USW 1sts suffered a dismal 4-0 defeat to Cardiff Met seconds in their second BUCS game of the season.

It was a quiet opening to the game for both sides. USW struggled for possession throughout the first half, with a lack of options a consistent theme during the early exchanges.

Met began to gain the ascendancy as the first-half progressed and claimed their first goal in the 21st minute after a tight-angled effort by Freya Reeves squeezed past USW goalkeeper Beth Harvard.

Two close range goals quickly followed in the 25th and the 30th minutes, slotted away by Eve Pepper and Lucy Bonar.

USW nearly broke through in the dying seconds of the first half.

After a long pass launched up the middle of the pitch by Katie Underwood, Katy Morton found herself with a one-on-one, after some brilliant recovery defending by Met, but her shot went just wide of the goal.

Met carried on their superiority into the second half.

Their constant pressure, work rate and composure posed problems for a struggling USW side, though Beth Harvard kept the hosts in the game with her solid shot-stopping as the game remained at 3-0.

A goal from a corner sealed the win for Met as Ria Pedlingham latched on to the ball and laid it off for Bonar to grab her second goal of the game.

USW will now look toward their clash with Cardiff 4ths next week
