“Annoying and disappointing” – that was the verdict from USW 3rds assistant manager James Vidler after his team’s 1-3 defeat at the hands of Cardiff 3rds.
The game was on a knife-edge for long periods with the score locked at 1-1, before late goals won it for the visitors.
Vidler said: “It’s a bit annoying to be perfectly honest, we’ve played these guys last week so to lose by a bigger margin was a bit disappointing to say the least.
“First-half we were a bit slow, but we went in at half-time still in the game
“We made a few tactical changes and I think we played some of our best football and got the goal, obviously
“The it was a defensive mishap (for the second goal) and heads go from there and they got their third.
“I can’t really fault the boys for most of the game, but we lost our heads at the end of the day.”
Vidler did stress there were positives for USW as well.
He added: “Defensively I thought we were alright, apart from the mishap at the second goal.
“The way that we reacted at half-time was a very strong positive… to turn a game round like that and even take control without scoring.
“That’s something we can be proud of, but I think we need to start scoring more.”
Asked whether Finley James’ equaliser was a cross or a shot, Vidler smiled and added: “We’ve had a bit of a discussion here, I’m on Finley’s side because there wasn’t anyone in the box.
“But the rest of the boys seem pretty adamant he’s not going to have the shot!”
