USW women’s hockey 1sts remain winless in the ICG Women’s Western Tier 2 League after visitors Cardiff University dismantled them 9-0.

Hat-tricks from Pheobe Hall and Charlotte Derry, a goal from Molly Elliot and a brace from Amy Taylor ensured Cardiff’s first victory of the season away at the Sports Park.

The first-half was a close affair with a lot of fight shown from the home side, but not before the early opener in the 6th minute from the first hat trick hero, Hall.

The second came soon after in the eighth minute, a nicely worked team goal finished off by Taylor.

USW showed more spirit from this point and the match was back and forth.

But there was more misery for the home side just before half time. Hall grabbed Cardiff’s second and it spelled the end for USW’s fight-back.

The hat-trick was completed for the Cardiff number 9 just a minute after the second-half restarted when Hall stormed through the home defence to make it 4-0.

The floodgates had been opened and Derry her first of the afternoon with a clumsy hit that luckily found it’s way through to the USW net for 5-0.

More clumsy defence would allow Derry to grab her second and Cardiff’s sixth just seven minutes later.

Taylor and Elliot got in on the scoring with Derry finishing off the rout.

Some good performances from Katie Underwood and Ffion Lovatt were positives for the home side on a dreadful afternoon which sees them remain winless and pointless so far this season.
