USW women’s hockey captain Beth Harvard remained positive despite a 1-0 defeat to local rivals Cardiff Met at Cyncoed.

Harvard’s team went behind early on to a Rosie Baker strike and were not able to recover.

USW had their chances, but for most of the game they were on the back foot defending.

Harvard said: “It was an interesting match and we played really well.

“There were loads of short corners that we defended really well. My team did great, I’m proud of them.”

USW could have no complaints about the result, but Harvard was not downhearted.

“We were strong defensively and we had some great wide balls and a really good press,” she added.
