USW basketball message about learning and building for the future with new players

By Ben Thomas

USW player Jodi Nyongera insisted there were positives to take from a disappointing 126-41 defeat away to Cardiff Met 2nds, as the newly-formed side look to build for the future.

The result has now seen them lose their opening six games of the season.

“The game was good, we had a couple of injuries today, but it was more of a learning curve here today. I know it was a loss, but the team is new and building chemistry” said Nyongera.

“Were all learning, we’ve only got two players left with us from last season, so majority of our players are new.

“We’re six games into the season, so it’s all about learning and gelling with the new players and building for next week.”

It was a good individual performance from Nyongera who managed 10 of the away side’s 41 points.

USW had a limited squad selection, suffering through multiple injuries, including the absence of star player Tinashe Masama.

“I say so yeah” said Nyongera when questioned whether the missing players had an impact. “In the third quarter one of our guys fouled out, so we only had five guys on the court for 15 minutes.”

“At the same time a loss is a loss, but we’ll take the benefits from it.”

The 1sts will now look to bounce back in their next fixture against Gloucestershire University 1sts, where they will be hoping to get revenge after a 61-85 defeat in their previous game earlier in the season.
