Head coach Adrian Harvey set his sights on a season-defining finale against Chichester after sweeping aside relegation rivals Swansea in a 6-1 thrashing at the Sport Park.

A hat-trick from Niro Gowran and further goals from Laquay Coleman, Tito Anderson and Kavan O’Leary earned a long-awaited victory after a torrid campaign.

Victory against league-leaders Chichester next week will probably save USW from relegation fro BUCS Premier League South.

Harvey said: “It wasn’t the prettiest win, but today’s result keeps us in the hunt.

“I’m super pleased with the three points along with the boys endeavour, desire and commitment shown. It was great to see.

“The boys now have belief and confidence, and earned the right to be celebrating in the changing rooms for the first time this season.”

Despite his gleaming smile, Harvey remained focused on the January clash with Chichester.

He added: “Our aim is to always work and improve.

“Over these next seven or eight weeks we can really hone in on our weaknesses and travel to Chichester with a full-strength squad.

“We just asked the boys to be in the mix in January, and they’ve done that. So I’m really happy for them.”

Harvey also credited his side’s devotion to the game-plan despite going 1-0 down in the 26th minute.

“Our success came from balls in behind early, exposing their high line was key to our game-plan,” he said.

“I thought we exposed their left flank brilliantly, especially Lequay, he was outstanding with his directness.

“I’m also very pleased that Niro was on the scoresheet.

“I said Monday he’d be in the mix for some goals, and he’s produced.”

Harvey urged his side to keep their composure in front of goal for their away trip in the new year as it could be the difference between survival and relegation:

“Today the boys have stepped up and shown that clinical edge,” he said.

“Compared to our last few games our xG will be much higher.

“They provided a really good platform from our trip to Exeter last week and showed great promise in today’s match.”
