Swansea City forward Liam Cullen admitted “it means everything to me” after helping his side secure a 2-0 home victory against rivals Cardiff City.
Cullen opened the scoring in the 34th minute, before a 96th minute goal from substitute Jamal Lowe secured all three points for the Swans.
Speaking after the win Cullen, who missed a penalty early in the second half, said: “For a lifelong fan, I love this club to death, to score and win in this fixture… it means everything to me.
“That feeling to score in that end in the first half, to go and celebrate with the east stand, that’s a feeling that will live with me forever.”
Cullen shared how his team felt it was important for them to secure victory in today’s fixture, looking to avenge the 2-0 away defeat earlier in the season.
He added: “Since we come off the pitch at their stadium we said we’ve got to put it right, for ourselves, for the staff of the club that are lifelong fans and for the fans that were here and couldn’t be here.”
“We had to be right at it from the start and I felt we were to a man, we were really good today. It wasn’t a Swansea City team that we saw in the away fixture.”
Cullen jokingly apologised for making the game more nervy for the Swans supporters after missing a penalty in the 50th minute.
“The best players in the world miss penalties so i’m not going to dwell on it,” he said.
“If I’m asked to take one again, I’ll step up again – it doesn’t bother me.”
The Swansea forward was also questioned on the impact of manager Luke Williams since arriving at the club.
He said: “I love him, ever since he walked through the door he’s been a breath of fresh air.
“He’s brought a style that we all love, a real attacking style, the fans want to see us play exciting attacking football. Every player loves him.”
“He’s a guy I want to work with for a long time, and hopefully we can have many more days like this.”
Cullen will link up with the Wales squad for their crucial qualification fixtures next week, before Swansea are back in action away to Middlesbrough on April 6.
