USW men’s 1sts are still waiting for a win this season after being hit for six in defeat to Plymouth Marjon at the Sport Park.

It was a comprehensive reverse for the hosts who are having to endure tough times compared to the glory of winning the BUCS title back in 2018.

The game started extremely quietly, with neither side able to conjure up any clear-cut chances in the first 20 minutes.

In the 27th minute, with only their second shot on target, Ovo Ememerurai rose highest to head home from a corner for Marjon.

And it took Marjon only nine minutes to double their advantage. This time it was midfielder Eli Evans who provided the finishing touch with a delightful lob over USW keeper Harley Tucker.

USW ended the first half on top and their pressure was rewarded when Kai Saurin played a sublime lofted ball to Lewis Taylor who smashed the ball against the post, before following in and scoring from point blank range to halve the deficit.

The second half began with Marjon regaining control.

It took them just 15 minutes to regain their two-goal lead. Jacob Smith emphatically volleyed home from a corner, adding to USW’s obvious trouble defending set-pieces.

This was where the floodgates opened, with it taking just four minutes for Marjon to add to their lead.

Max Everall’s shot was parried by Tucker before right-back Jack Kelsey fired in the rebound.

Two minutes late the USW defence was carved apart once again, this time it was the left-back Adam Kenyon who slotted past Tucker at the keeper’s near-post.

The sixth goal came almost immediately, with Max Everall finishing from close range following some intricate play from the Marjon midfield.

Niro Gowran’s goal in the 76th minute proved to be nothing but a consolation for USW, who face Cardiff Met 2nds next week, looking to get their first win of the season at the fourth time of asking.
