USW head coach Andrew Whittington could not contain his delight after watching his team secure their first win of the season against Cardiff Met 2nds.

Two goals from Laurent Ngungoh saw USW home, despite a 34th minute red card for Kyle Capner who picked up two bookings.

“Losing a man and going down to 10 men is an excuse to allow pressure and to crumble,” Whittington said.

“Credit to the lads they managed the moment in terms of regrouping, yet remained a threat with 10 men.”

USW conceded a very early second half equaliser yet managed to regain the lead through a well taken lob by Ngunjoh.

Whittington added: “We’ve been ahead in games so far, so it’s just about managing the moments afterwards.

“I asked them to get an outcome early in the game and we did that, showing quality in the two goals we scored.”

Met were second in the table before today’s match but failed to respond to USW regaining the lead thanks to a resilient defensive performance from the home team.

Whittington praised two-goal Ngungoh, saying: “He has the ability to be one of the most effective strikers in this league.”
