USW 4ths were thrashed by a welldrilled University of Wales Trinity at the Sport Park.

The game was level up until the 17th minute, when UWTSD won a corner. Their star man Nico Sofiu delivered the set-piece to the back post, Aaron Thomas leapt and his goalbound header was tapped in on the line by Tom Esney for the opening goal.

Esney was at it again soon after, as he bent a freekick low to the right past USW goalkeeper Oliver Kendell.

Owain Davies started and finished the move that gave UWTSD their third, playing the ball down the left flank to Esney and then continuing his run into the box where a cross came in from winger Ryan Roberts for Davies to volley home.

USW had a couple of dangerous chances in a brief five minute spell, the first after a ball into the box bounced favourably to Jeremy Smith, who dragged his shot wide.

The other chance came from a lobbed through ball from captain Joe Doyle which found Ceiron Williams through on goal at an angle, although his effort was pulled wide.

UWTSD quickly added to their tally, Sofiu getting the first of five goals as he fired into the roof of the net. He bagged their next also, just a minute later, lobbing Kendell.

The visitors went into the break 60 up after Jaiden Rees slotted home seconds before the whistle.

Much of the same followed in the second half, and in the 48th minute Sofiu finished from close range, despite defender Jacob Sykes’ best effort to keep it out.

Roberts got in on the act, scoring a hat-trick in just seven minutes as USW capitulated. They all came from the left hand side, an area where he regularly found himself in space to drive towards goal.

There were two more late goals from Sofiu, as he provided the finishing touch to Xander Jones’ low cross and also converted a latepenalty.

Towards the end of the match USW created a chance through Gunay Coban as he carried the ball into the away side’s half, only for James McLaren to find the side-netting with a shot from Coban’s pass.
