It’s been a quiet transfer deadline day for Wrexham, with the main story of the day coming out of north Wales being the new design to the Kop stand at The Racecourse.
The Red Dragons have not done any deadline day deals but this does not mean it has been a quiet transfer window. Wrexham broke the bank to smash their transfer record fee with the signing of Reading FC forward Sam Smith for two million pounds. Smith scored 26 goals in 59 appearances for the Royals since re-joining the Berkshire side in 2023.
Smith is not the only forward joining the Red Dragons this winter transfer window with former England international Jay Rodriguez signing from championship promotion hopefuls Burnley. Rodriguez won his sole cap for England in 2013 and joins Wrexham on an 18 month deal.
The third signing for The Red Dragons this window also came from the championship with Ryan Longman linking up with the side from Hull for £600,000. Longman has made an instant impact at The Racecourse ground with the assist for Wrexham’s stoppage time winner against Crawley on Saturday.
Wrexham midfielder Elliot Lee was full of praise for the trio of signings when speaking to BBC sport. Lee said: “The club is going in a great direction and we’ve all got the same target and the same goal.
“So keep on bringing in better players because better players improve players around them.”
There have been a trio of outgoings to match the trio of incomings for Wrexham with James Jones, Billy Waters and Jon Bodvarsson all leaving north Wales.
Jones made 105 appearances for The Red Dragons since joining the club in 2021 and secured promotion from the national league and league two with the side.
Wrexham fans will be hoping these new signings revitalise a side who are pushing for promotion from league one after only picking up seven points out of a possible 18 since the start of 2025 which leaves Phil Parkinson’s men four points off the automatic promotion places with 17 matches remaining of the season.
